Are there any types of taxes we don't get back?

In terms of being taxed for items throughout the year, which do we not see any reimbursements for? I am asking for a friend who was curious. I don't know enough about how the tax system works to answer it properly.
 
I think you get a percentage of everything back that you are taxed on other than taxes made with in store or online purchases.
 
It depends on the state. Sales tax may not count in some states, and there's also a federal limitation to how much property tax you can deduct.
